The following musicians have joined Local 325 in the past year

June 2022

Robert Barnhart
Bob is a former member who plays Bb, A and Eb Clarinets. He has recently performed in a Liturgical ensemble at La Jolla Presbyterian Church and Principal Clarinet with the Grossmont Symphony. Bob was a sub with the San Diego Symphony, Opera and Ballet from 1975 to 1985, and played Principal Clarinet with San Diego Lyric Opera in the late 2000s. Welcome back to Local 325!

Adrian Evarkiou-Kaku
Adrian plays Violin and is currently performing at the La Jolla Playhouse. He received his Undergrad degree in Violin Performance from Vanderbilt University and his Master of Music in Violin Performance from the Cleveland Institute of Music. Welcome to San Diego and Local 325!

Kevin Gobetz
Kevin is a returning member who plays Double Bass. He has recently performed with the Phoenix Symphony, St. Louis Symphony, the Los Angeles Philharmonic. Kevin has also played with and is returning to the San Diego Symphony. He received his Master and Grad Certificate from USC. Welcome back Kevin!

Evan Pasternak
Evan is a Violinist who will be performing with the San Diego Symphony. He has also worked with the Princeton Symphony Orchestra and Symphony in C in New Jersey. Evan received a BA in Biochemistry at Yale University and his MM in Violin Performance at Indiana University, Jacobs School of Music. Welcome to Local 325!

Will Vargas
Will plays all Saxophones, all Flutes, all Clarinets, Oboe and English Horn. He has recently performed at Royal Albert Music Hall with EBA, at La Mirada Performing Arts, Carpenter Center, the Cerritos Performong Arts Center and at Disneyland with the Pearly Band. He is currently performing at the La Jolla Playhouse. Welcome, Will!

May 2022

Aaron Blick
Aaron plays Double Bass and Electric Bass and recently performed with the London Symphony Orchestra, the Los Angeles Philharmonic, the LA Opera and the San Diego Symphony. He received his musical training at Northwestern University where he earned his BM, and at the University of Southern California where he earned his MM. Aaron is a versatile performer experienced in classical music as well as studio recording and Jazz. Welcome to Local 325!

Gregory Perrin
Gregory plays viola and has recently performed with many symphonies both in Florida, Alabama and here in San Diego. He will be working with the San Diego Symphony. Gregory received his musical training at the Eastman School of Music and the Lynn Conservatory of Music. Welcome, Gregory!

Julia Barnett
Julia plays Flute and Piccolo. She has recently performed with the Billing Symphony & Chorale in Montana and the duo Flautas Frescas in San Diego. Julia attended Rice University, the University of Colorado at Bounder, and received her Doctorate at UCLA. She also directs an amateur adult flute choir, the Avanti Flute Choir, and they are always looking for new members. Welcome to Local 325!

Maliq Mendez-McGillivray
Maliq plays Bb trumpet and comes to San Diego from Green Bay Wisconsin to pursue greater opportunities. He recently performed with Steve March Torme at the Weidner Center in Green Bay. Welcome to San Diego and Local 325, Maliq!

Jon Hoehne
Jon is a returning member who plays the many Trumpets. He has recently performed with the California Chamber Orchestra, the Utah Symphony, the San Francisco Opera and the San Diego Symphony and Opera. Jon also played as an extra and toured with the San Diego Symphony from 2011 to 2019 under Jahja Ling. Welcome back, Jon.

Melanie Medina
Melanie plays Guitar, Electric Bass and Ukulele. She studied Jazz Guitar at SDSU. Melanie has recently performed at several local venues and is currently performing in the production of Bhangin’ It at the La Jolla Playhouse. As a “military brat,” Melanie has lived in many places, including Okinawa and Spain. Welcome to Local 325!

Jamie Townsend
Jamie plays Electric Bass and Upright (Jazz) Bass. She is currently performing at the La Jolla Playhouse and received her training at Brigham Young University. Welcome, Jamie!

February 2022

Michael Hill
Michael plays Acoustic and Electric Guitars and does lead and harmony vocals. He recently performed at a reunion jam of several local bands. Michael has been performing as the front man in Grateful Dead cover bands since 1981 and was formerly known as “Mike N. Stein” in his first band called Born-Crosseyed. He is looking to collaborate with local musicians in North County and expand his original work into new directions. Welcome, Michael!

Sherri Lynn Kelly
Sherri plays Bassoon, Oboe, Clarinet, Alto Saxophone, Flute, Piccolo, Irish Flute and Pennywhistle, and the Bodhran. She has recently performed with the North County Winds and the Coastal Communities Concert Band in San Diego County, and with the Wisconsin Chamber Orchestra, the Green Bay Symphony Orchestra and the Wisconsin Wind Orchestra in Wisconsin. Sherri received her Master of Music from Ball State University in Muncie, Indiana and her Bachelor of Music at the University of Wisconsin, Madison. She will be performing with concert bands, wind ensembles, and orchestras here in San Diego. Sherri is the Director of Administration for a California non-profit organization called OPTIONS FOR ALL headquartered in San Diego that provides support services to adults with intellectual or developmental disabilities. Welcome to San Diego!

January 2022

Jon Andre (John Andre Scott)
Jon has returned to Local 325 since relocating to Julian. He plays Piano, Keyboards, Drums (marching or set) and does vocals (choral or solo). Jon has recently performed with the Celebration Choir, and at the Purpose Church in Pomona, the Hillside Community Church in Julian, and the Pacific Baptist Church in El Segundo. He is currently performing at the Orchard Hill Country Inn. Jon is training in music theory, arranging, composition, and voice (classical). He can also instruct in sight-singing, ear training, interval recognition and copyright assistance. Jon is also a Civil Engineer and a candidate for the Structural Engineer exam in April of this year. He is a US Army veteran and West Point graduate. Welcome back!

John Blacklow
John plays Piano, Celeste and Keyboards and has joined Local 325 to perform with the San Diego Symphony. He has recently performed with the LA Philharmonic, UCLA Live, NPR’s “Performance Today,” and at the Hollywood Bowl. John graduated from both Juilliard and Thornton. Welcome to Local 325!

Justin Hansen
Justin plays Piano and Keyboards, Viola and Guitar. He has recently performed on keyboard/vocals with the band “Bowyn” in Seattle, on piano/composer for the Women’s Choir “Ancora” in Seattle and was a guest soloist with the Southwest Symphony Orchestra. Justin received a Bachelors in Piano Performance at Utah Tech University and a Masters in Composition from the Seattle Film Institute. He is a freelance musician looking to connect with other local musicians to collaborate, Justin is a skilled sight-reader, composer, performer, orchestrator, arranger and educator. Welcome to San Diego and the Local!

December 2021

Rodion Belousov
Rodion plays Oboe, English Horn, and Duduk. He has recently performed with the Civic Orchestra of Chicago, the Boston Ballet Orchestra, the Boston Philharmonic Youth Orchestra, Symphony Promusic, Symphony Nova, and the Vasilievsky Ostrov Symphony Orchestra. Rodion received his BM at the Longy School of Music, his MM at Boston University, and his Performance Diploma at Boston University as well. Rodion has joined the San Diego Symphony as Second Oboe. We welcome him to San Diego and Local 325.

Ben Brogadir

Ben plays Oboe and English Horn and has recently performed with the San Francisco Opera, San Francisco Symphony, and the Ojai Festival Orchestra. He will be performing with the San Diego Symphony. Ben achieved his BM at Colburn Conservatory and then his MM at the San Francisco Conservatory of Music. He was the only American Finalist and received Honorable Mention in the 2021 IDRS Fernand Gillet-Hugo Fox International Oboe Competition. Welcome to San Diego!

Blake Cooper
Blake plays Tuba, Cimbasso, Electric Bass and Bass Trombone. He will be subbing with the San Diego Symphony. Blake has recently performed with the New West Symphony, the LA Philharmonic, Hans Zimmer, and Germaine Franco as well as the San Diego Symphony. He received his DMA from the University of Southern California, his MM from the University of Texas at Austin, and his BMME from the University of Kentucky. Welcome to Local 325!

Mike Holguin
Mike plays Drums and Percussion and has rejoined Local 325 to perform with the San Diego Symphony. He has performed with Celia Cruz, the Little River Band, Natalie Cole, Nathan East, Jass on the Latin Side Allstars and Gilbert Castellanos. Welcome back, Mike!

November 2021

Sharon DuBois
Sharon is a vocalist, pianist and guitarist. She has recently performed with many local artists, including Local 325 member Derek Cannon. Sharon received Associates Degrees from Monroe Community College in Rochester, New York, and vocal training at Eastman School of Music. She has a 20 year mentorship with Daniel Jackson. Sharon composed, performed on and produced two albums – Here I am and Into Light. Welcome to Local 325!

Anna Mat
Anna plays Violin and Piano. She has recently performed with the Poway Symphony Orchestra, Pacific Lyric Orchestra, Alan Parsons Project, Chance the Rapper, the La Jolla Symphony, and on the album Petra by Luca Aquino. Anna received her MA Degree from the University of Music in Plock, Poland, specializing in instrumental performance. Anna was a judge for the Young Talents Competition held by the La Jolla Symphony, as well as Concertmistress for the Amman Symphony for 12 years. She was also a sub for different orchestras in the Los Angeles area and performing on soundtrack recordings for The Bad Seed and The High Notes. Welcome, Anna!

October 2021

Aaron McCalla
Aaron plays Tuba and will be performing with the San Diego Symphony. He has also recently performed with the Naples Philharmonic, the Florida Orchestra and the Sarasota Orchestra. Aaron received his training at the New England Conservatory, the Juilliard School and Southern Methodist University. He has also played tuba in various rock bands through Central America and Austin, Texas. Welcome to San Diego and Local 325!

Greg Ochotorena V
Greg is a returning Local 325 member and will be performing with the San Diego Symphony. He plays Trombone and Euphonium. Welcome back!

September 2021

Mark Vanderpoel
Mark plays Acoustic and Electric Basses, Guitar, Ukulele and Keyboards. He has rejoined Local 325 to perform at the Old Globe Theatre. Mark has recently performed with Audra McDonald, David Johansen, Taylor Hicks, Lin-Manuel Miranda, Ryuichi Sakamoto, and Terry Slingbaum. He received his BFA at UCSD, and his MFA at the California Institute of the Arts (Cal Arts). We welcome Mark back to Local 325.

August 2021

Daniel Chavarin
Daniel speaks fluent Spanish and plays Drums and Percussion. He has recently performed with the Baja Symphony and the La Jolla Symphony and Choir. Daniel will be performing in the production of Hair at The Old Globe Theatre. His studies include the genres of Jazz, classical, rock, Latin, West African, Brazilian and Caribbean drumming. Welcome to Local 325, Daniel!

David Holben
David plays Tuba, Cimbasso, and Euphonium and has rejoined Local 325 to perform with the San Diego Symphony Orchestra. He has recently performed with the New West Symphony, the Pacific Symphony, the Santa Barbara Symphony, Opera of Santa Barbara, the L.A. Opera, and as a studio musician in Los Angeles. David received his BM at Eastman School, his MM at the University of Arizona, Tucson, and a DMA at USC. He is a professor at CSU Fullerton and Concordia University. Welcome back!

Weiyi Xu
Weiyi is a collaborative pianist and has also rejoined Local 325. She will be performing with the San Diego Symphony and says that she loves chamber music and getting together to make music. Weiyi studied Collaborative Piano at Manhattan School of Music. Glad to have you back at Local 325!

Kathryn Bradley
Kathryn plays Double Bass and has been employed by the San Diego Symphony Orchestra as a long-term substitute. She recently performed with the New World Symphony. Kathryn received an MM in 2018 from Rice University and a BM in 2015 from the Peabody Institute of Music. Welcome to San Diego!

Michael Matsuno
Michael has reinstated his membership in Local 325 to perform with the San Diego Symphony Orchestra. Michael is a member of Ensemble Echoi for the Monday Evening Concerts series, which is the longest running contemporary music program in Los Angeles. He is classically trained and is working on a doctorate in contemporary music performance from UCSD (expected Fall 2021). Welcome back, Michael!
